Midweek Mixtape: Sarene Leeds of Rolling Stone Magazine
This week’s Midweek Mixtape has been provided by associate editor Sarene Leeds of Rolling Stone. Leeds has worked at Rolling Stone for the past five years and covers shows such as Mad Men, True Blood, and Boardwalk Empire for Rolling Stone. While TV is definitely a major passion of Leeds’ working at Rolling Stone naturally requires one to also have a fond respect and appreciation for music . This is not hard for Leeds as she herself is a rock singer! She includes some of the cover songs she often sings live on her playlist below (“Hanging on the Telephone” by Blondie and “Sweet Child O’Mine” by Guns n’ Roses).
Leeds is also a huge U2 fan. She shared with me that she met her husband ( pictured above) at a U2 tribute band show and actually met Bono himself in 2002. This being said you can of course expect to see a U2 track to appear on her playlist. Leeds’ also didn’t abandon her love for TV completely when putting together her playlist, she includes a version of “River Deep, Mountain High” performed by the cast of Glee, which she actually prefers over Tina Turner’s version.
You can follow Sarene Leeds on Twitter and check out her work on RollingStone.com, all while listening to her eclectic playlist right here on Mod City Mag!
